Video with permission of: eccentric-exercises.blogspot.com 1 set of 15 repetitions of eccentric squats (with weights in a backpack) used to treat chronic patellar tendinitis. Standing on the leg with the bad knee, exercises are done in 3 sets, once at night, after the inflammation period of tendinitis has gone away, but when pain remains. Weights are added very gradually over months. The eccentric part of the exercise occurs in the downward phase of the motion, and should ideally take 2-3 seconds; the upward motion should be relatively faster. Before doing these exercises, consult with appropriate medical professionals. |

www.sandersclinic.net Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries are a common orthopaedic problem, especially in sports that are high-contact or involve sudden changes in direction. This particular patient was from Arizona and tore his left ACL while riding motocross. In addition to the ACL tear, he had a continuing problem with his left patella dislocating. He flew down to Houston, Texas and had his operation on a Wednesday. He walked out of the hospital the same day with no crutches or braces and came into the clinic the next day. His dressings were changed, xrays were taken, and he was instructed on what he would be doing while he was in town and when he returned home. This video footage is from the next Monday, approximately 5 days after surgery. The footage only shows him performing step-ups and walking, but there are many more exercises in his rehab protocol. His ACL reconstruction involved taking a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft from his right knee and inserting it into his left knee. This graft is what is known as the "gold standard" because of its strength and healing time. Then, his patella was realigned by tightening the medial (medial means towards the middle of the body) retinaculum of his left knee. This involved making an incision in the medial retinaculum and sewing it back tighter so that there was more medial pull on the patella. For more information about ACL reconstruction at the Sanders Clinic, Dr. Sanders, or other injuries, please visit http or call ... |

Selphie was a foster dog with Shiba Inu Rescue Association. She was born at a puppy mill with 2 luxating patellas (lose knees). The right was a grade 3/4 and the left was a grade 4. With out medical treatment Selphie would have eventually lost the ability to walk. As you can see in this video taken on 4/3/08 when she was 12 weeks old, she already had a pronounced limp. SIRA fundraised to get her the medical treatment she so desperately needed. The surgery was successful and Selphie is now living a normal pain free life! For more information on how you can help other Shibas like Selphie visit Shiba Inu Rescue Association's website at www.SavingShibas.com. |

Health & Fitness Expert, Aliesa George shows you a quick and easy exercise you can practice almost anywhere to help strengthen the muscles around the knee cap and learn how to stabilize the knee joint to avoid locking the knee. www.Centerworks.com I like to call this the Kneecap Dance, but in technical terms the Knee cap is called the Patella, so this is actually a Patella tracking exercise that has the added benefit of helping to strengthen the quadriceps and stabilize the knee. Executed correctly, you'll be improving the muscle control and support for your knee joint and learning how not to jam the kneecap back and cause pain or locked knees. Ok, are you ready? Id encourage you to either wear shorts to get started, or roll your pant legs up so that you can see your knees. Sit down on the floor, or a mat, and since our focus isn't on posture today...if you want to sit with your back against a wall so you only have to pay attention to your knees and not worry about your core and back muscles working to help you sit tall... I'm fine with that. Extend both legs straight out in front of you. If you're feeling a hamstring stretch there's another muscle that needs some attention to help your knees feel better! If you want to take a bit of the stretch off, sit up on a phone book, or maybe on a footstool or in a chair. Its important that you have straight, but unlocked knees to practice this knee exercise. Alright, to start I like to put my fingers on my kneecap and just gently ... |
